3 Apps for Teaching What Questions

by adminS2U

Do you ever feel like you are stuck using the same activities for teaching WHAT questions?  I shared a few activity ideas on Tuesday and wanted to share my favorite apps to teach WHAT questions and how I use them.

Apps for Teaching WHAT questions:

If you use the iPad in your sessions, you may want to check out these cause and effect apps for practicing WHAT questions.

apps

Photo Buttons:

Speech2u Teaching WHAT questions

This is a simple cause and effect app that you can customize.  The screen will show a number of buttons.  When the child presses on a button, the button turns over to reveal a picture.  When the picture is revealed, I ask them, “What is it?” What is great about this app, is that you can add your own photos-it’s easy to customize to your client or student’s special interests.  (Ex. if they love sports, you could have a lot of sports pictures for them to identify.  If you are working on family names, you could add in pictures of family members.)

SoundTouch:

I use this app at LEAST weekly.  It has categories for animals, jungle animals, birds, vehicles, musical instruments, and household items.  Each page on the app has 12 pictures.  Choose a picture-and when you press on it, the sound of the animal/object comes up.  I use it to work on “What says?” and object function questions.  (Ex. What do you open and shut?  The child answers by pressing or saying “door” and a picture of a door with the sound of knocking comes up.)  There are about 5 different pictures for each icon, which keeps it interesting for my clients.

Peek a boo Barn:

Night & Day Studios has quite a few versions of this app.  You hear a knocking noise on a door, you touch the door and it opens revealing a farm animal.  We work on what says?  and What is it? questions with this activity.

You hear an animal noise and knocking sound.  When you open the door, you see an animal.  It is very simple, but a fun way to work on animal sounds and animal labels.

QUESTION:  What is your favorite app to work on question forms?  I can’t wait to hear about it.  Leave a comment below.

Did you like these ideas?  I would be super pumped if you could take a quick second to share with your friends on Facebook or on Pinterest by clicking on the share buttons below!
